LEAR and DIDO Rehearsals Day 7

Week two continued with Dido today and we’re breaking the backs of those big speeches. It’s been so valuable to dig into the text as a company, because however much work you do alone, it’s still always useful to get another interpretation and a completely different perspective on a scene. We’ve covered some pretty meaty speeches and as we’re working through the opening of the play, we’ve been able to get everybody’s insight on the all important scenes that set up the whole play. Going in to as much detail as possible now is incredibly helpful as it’s building a solid foundation for the rest of the work we’ll do.

We also tackled the key movement pieces today. From the workshop there had come some interesting moments that today we transformed into sweeping images using the whole cast across the stage, building the scale of the play. The movement pieces also provide a different element of storytelling which adds another level of depth to the piece as a whole. Between the songs, the puppet, movement and of course the acting, it is really becoming an holistic storytelling experience.
