LEAR and DIDO Rehearsals Day 8

As I was away the beginning of last week, today I was introduced for the first time to the storm that is Lear – and what an introduction! I was placed in the best position (in the ‘splash zone’) and the company performed the play up until where they had finished work last week. It was incredibly exciting watching the work they had done with fresh eyes and getting drawn into the play and the characters, despite my knowing it so well. Something that arose from this was that it is easy, when switching between two plays, to forget the little details that makes the worlds real, so we’ll be keeping an eye on that! We also spent a good section of the morning working with the composer on the music for Lear, learning the song and trying it out in different guises, from beautiful choral singing to denoting civil unrest. I’m sure we will continue to play with this tomorrow as we continue with Lear text work and staging.
