Merchant of Venice Rehearsals Day 6

And so begins Week Two! We began with the usual warm-up, which fed into a movement activity involving a repeated step pattern and improvisation. It’s an exercise about trust, spontaneity and creativity, about working as a team and maintaining pace and energy – contrary to popular belief every “drama game” has a purpose. Following this we resumed our text work, thinking about working on a thrust stage and communicating the story. Although staging the text will come later, we are starting to think about it and how the language might influence when or where we move. We also thought about props certain characters might have, based on their characteristics and roles in the play. We’ll pick up tomorrow with an ‘unthrifty knave’ and his master.
